Unless you’ve been living under a rock, with your hands in your ears, shouting “la-la-la-la I’m not listening, current affairs aren’t real” which I hope you aren’t, you’ll have heard of Lady Gaga. She is incredibly influential but I hate her, personally. What is the point of wearing clothes that are incredibly uncomfortable and completely unreliable? It’s not unique or anything, it’s just weird.
Now, while fans may say that she is creative and imaginative, I think she’s just looking for media attention (which she is doing quite well, mind you). If suddenly decided that it’s a good idea to wear a traffic light on my head and roller-blades as gloves, I’d probably be given an injection from the men in white coats. On the other hand, when someone on TV does it, she’s creative!
Another problem with Lady Gaga’s dresses is that they aren’t convenient for use. I felt a huge rush of indignation when I heard about her “meat dress”. Sounds like a good idea, right? As it turned out ke$ha had decided it would be a good idea to come out on a tamed lion, which isn’t to bad an idea, if the lion is tame. She couldn’t because of Lady Gaga’s dress. The lion could have eaten Lady Gaga (I honestly don’t see the problem!).
But I guess this isn’t only to do with Lady Gaga. This next bits going to get me mugged but I think it’s a bit the Beatles fault. Some of the Beatles music was okay but a lot of it hurts my ears! All they did was change music. They didn’t change it for the better or anything, though I think that “Beatlemania” did, they just changed it. 2
I think the problem is that people want change. Different in entertainment cant be bad, since different in politics would probably be accepted as well, as long as it was good different. People are so obsessed with something being original that if someone is original but not really different, he’s unoriginal. Take Cher Lloyd, from the X-factor. In one of the rounds, she said she wrote a rap to Viva la Vida by Coldplay. This was taken badly because she didn’t write any lyrics but just rapped the viva la vida lyrics, taken some inspiration from a Swizz Beats remix of the song. What I don’t see is why, when she at least tried to be original in a way that you can still listen to, everybody took it worse than someone who sang a cover of a song without changing it whatsoever. She is the first white female english rapper I’ve ever seen and the first person to actually rap on the X-factor. Seems original enough for me!
